When you first decide you want to try wrapping your baby it can be a bit intimidating. My best advice for you when learning to wrap your baby: don’t give up!
When I first tried to wrap my baby, it was a disaster. Real talk – it wasn’t good. Nobody got hurt, well except for my ego. Let’s just say there were tears involved and they were not from Baby J.
Learning to back-carry was even worse. I remember when I first decided I was ready to back carry. I had watched 100 how-to videos, read up on safety and I was really ready to do it! More tears, more ego bruises.
As it turns out, it’s not as easy as it looks. Want to know why? The people in those videos have tons and tons and TONS of practice. It’s not something they just picked up one day, but instead it was a skill they perfected over time, and with lots of dedication to the craft. I know this now because I see how much easier it gets every single time I wrap my baby. I’m not telling you this to scare you off! In fact, it’s just the opposite. I’m telling you this because I have been there. I have thought the “wrapping is not for me” and “this is way too much work to be worth it” thoughts. I promise you though, wrapping IS worth it, and it IS for you. It is for everyone.

I still get flustered when people are watching me, but knowing that I try to always wrap without inquiring eyes wondering what I am doing (I guess I will never be one of those awesome mamas in the videos!). More importantly, I practice, practice, practice. You don’t always have to be going somewhere to carry your baby. In fact, I wrap my baby most often when I am just trying to get things done around the house. Baby J gets to be a part of all of the everyday things that I do, and I get to get things done! He loves to watch me do the dishes, make dinner, put away clothes, or even type on the computer 😉
It really does get easier, and before you know it you will be wrapping like those awesome teachers in the how-to videos you’ve watched 1000 times! Please, don’t ever give up on something you want to do. I promise, it’s worth it!

Before you try something new, take some time to read up on Babywearing Safety. Wearing your baby is incredibly safe, but like everything else you allow your baby to use, it should be done with care. You should always keep a close eye on your baby whether using a carrier, sling, swing, seat, or stroller.
